Since I retired from the position of CEO, I’ve enjoyed the game more than ever before. It’s nice being in a corp with people you like, doing “fun stuff”. I took a brief Eve break and took a vacation with my wife to visit friends in North Carolina. We had a great time, and even went to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts at an outdoor venue. The fun factor was off the meter that night.
For the next 60 days or so, we as a corporation are concentrating our skil points into a quick strike force. Lots of EWAR, and DPS. I’ve gotten my Megathron up to 863 DPS with my pitiful skills, and I’m currently training for “Sniper Duty” in our fleets. We have a motley crew of HAC Pilots as well as EWAR ready to throw their ships at the enemy. All we’ve gotta do is find an enemy.
None of us wants to be a “gate camp” or “high sec griefer” corp. We want to find our niche in the game. I’m suggesting we try commerce raiding. There are times when 0.0 corporations need to move their materials to or from high sec space. We are creating “throw-away” alts to watch the commerce to and from these pipelines to Empire. Our goal will be catch a freighter or two as a way of making income. Billions are potentially there for the taking, and we want to exploit this. I don’t know how successful this will be, but you never know till you try.

This post has taken 3 days to put together, so bear with me here. I’m down 9 Million isk because I bought two skill books. Focus and Clarity boost your Willpower and Perception. These two attributes effect your ability to learn how to fly ships, and use guns. I also used one of my two Neural Remaps to give those attributes a boost at the expense of other attributes (Memory, Intellegence and Charisma).
I’m trying to learn Gallente Industrial so I can fly the venerable Iteron Mk V. To say it’s an ugly ship is to insult other ugly ships. It looks like an enormous, green (like turtle turds, not grass), slender phallus with an engorged glans and cancerous lesions that blotch the shaft at random areas along the circumference. On the plus side, this bastard holds a metric crap-ton of cargo. 25k cubic meters of cargo hold are available for me to exploit at my leisure. No I can’t haul rigged ships, but I can fill the bays up with random junk to be carried from one end of new eden to the other. I can haul more cargo, boosting my income / hr.
Late last night I decided to set a course for Minmatar space. Honestly, I’ve not explored all the regions of empire, but there are regions I know very well.
Caldari Space
I know the Forge like I know the back of my hand. I know the low-sec pirate gatecamps, the cool out of the way mining spots, and the best places to flip cans.
Amarr Space
I know Domain, and Genesis, but damned if I know Tash-Murkon, or Kador, much less Detroid.
Gallente Space
I know Essence, but just barely. Sinq Liason I’ve got a pretty good handle on the low-sec activity there.
Minmatar Space
I don’t know jack about Minmatar space, outside of avoiding Rancer, and that Amamake is awesome.
So I loaded up the hauler with nothing and headed there to grab some courier contracts and make some money. I probably should have grabbed a frigate to scan the belts, but I’m pretty much not going back to grab one now. From what I’ve seen, the contract courier market is actually better in Metropolis than Domain or Tash-Murkon. I’m not keeping the map open on my screen while I’m accepting contracts and planning my routes. I’m kind of letting them happen. The biggest problem I’m having are the little one system pockets. You know the ones I mean. They have a high sec region pocket with low sec systems on each side. Trying to get in there to haul out 2.2Km3 of cargo without getting blown up is a bitch: It does make it fun though. The main reason I mention those pesky little pockets; I picked up 2 courier jobs to those pockets. One of those is Anher. It’s a high sec (0.5) system with a low sec (0.4) gate between it and the next high sec system. I took the time to look at the map and see there were 3 pilots killed there in the past hour. Welp, I might as well buy a small frig and see what’s up. I paid waaaay too much for an Executioner, but I made it through. No one was on the gates, but there were quite a few folks in system. The only ships I saw on the directional scanner were Assault Frigates and Destroyers. No way in hell they were going to try and bust me at the gate. I bought 2 warp core stabilizers, an Inertial Stabializer and a Nano-Fiber to give me a chance against a Warp Scrambler and to improve my alignment time. I jumped inside the Bestower, said a prayer and headed back through the 2 gates I’d have to hop to pick up my parcel. Luckily there were no scouts watching the gates and I was able to pass through unmolested.
If you’ve followed this blog for any amount of time, you’re probably saying to yourself; “fucking carebear”. Eve is a complex game, and there is more to PvP combat than blowing up ships. There’s also market based PvP. If I blow up someone’s ship, they’ll just go get another one. They can run missions, mine, or manufacture in high sec and I’ll not be able to touch them without incurring unreasonable amounts of loss to my own wallet. I’m interested in all aspects of PVP, and limiting myself to the type of combat only available in lowsec, high sec or 0.0 is more confinement than I want on my game play. Before I can engage in market AND ship based PVP I have to acquire certain skills. I also am playing to win. I’m not interested in incurring a large series of losses in ship combat, just to satisfy a primitive need for adrenaline. I’m getting a handle on my logistics, then I’m moving to combat readiness. Once the logistics are in place, I’ll then move into combat training.
In my quest to acquire ISK, I’ve started looking for ways to generate income in every aspect of how I play the game. I look at every system I pass through and scan the locals. I look to see who’s chatting in the open channel. I’m looking specifically for gossip. All of my local chats are archived and stored. This is important because I can go back through those chats and analyze them later for important information. I don’t mind drifting around in the major trade hubs in the different regions, because all that local chatter is being stored. That local chatter becomes Intel. Yea I know, 99% of it is shit talking, penis waving, and general garbage. There’s always though, that little nugget hidden amongst the fecal matter than can make the difference in a deal. The kind of things you can mine from local are:
1. Who is at war? This may not seem important, but when a group of players is camped in station and waiting for their aggressors to leave, or their rescue fleet to arrive; It might pay to take note and offer to haul ammo and ships from one place to another at a reasonable rate. There’s also no reason you have to pick a side. Offer to sell your services to both entities. Keep everything above board and legal. Maybe even gouge the price a little. It doesn’t hurt to ask, and what’s the worst thing they could say? Getting no for an answer doesn’t hurt. If nothing else, you’ve planted a seed in their minds.
2. What are the current scams being run, and who is running them? This serves two purposes. It tells you who to look out for, and what methods are working. Let’s face it: scams would not be copied if they did not work.
One of the other things I do in trade hubs; I scan the contract pages. You can sometimes find good deals. I also look for courier contracts. Normally, you’ll never make a lot of ISK/hr hauling from the contract pages. It never hurts to take the time to finish filling up your cargo hold, and haul an item or two, and maybe pick up a few hundred thousand ISK in the process. You also might find a customer that’s willing to get his item delivered faster for another few hundred thousand isk. You might also get a customer that’s willing to contract to you directly.
I advertise my hauling services in my Bio on my character screen. I’ll start conversations with folks in local, in an effort to get them to scan my bio, to check out the rates I offer. Yea, it’s trolling. With very little effort today I’ve almost completely recovered my initial investment in hauling. I started with 37 Million isk I transferred to this character from Ihas Urstuff. I went down to 32 million when I bought
Skill Books
A Bestower
A Magnate
A Shuttle
5 Expanded Cargo Hold II
In one day, I’m back up to 35 Million from just running courier mission I picked up in Tash-Murkon and Amarr.
While I’m talking about regions, let me say that The Forge is a sewer. The contract pages in The Forge (where Jita is located), are for the most part full of scams to get haulers down to low-sec so that gate camps can pop them. They must work, because the pages are full of them. Amarr and Tash-Murkon are very lucrative regions for haulers. I really need to check out the Matari regions to see if a profit can be made there. My suspicion is no, but I still need to investigate.
When I started playing Eve, I had some small goals in mind. I wanted to be able to amass large amounts of capital with very little outlay. I broke away from those goals and started trying to fly bigger and bigger ships. I went “legit” to make isk. I ran missions, I mined, and I even did courier stuff to make ends meet. That was wrong and I know it now.
I have 2 accounts. My main account has only 1 character on it. It’s my legit character (sort of). On my 2nd account, I’ve got a Rifter Pilot. He can fly other ships, but he’s pretty much a Rifter Jockey. He’s capable of T2 fitting the cream of the T1 frigate crop and blowing amazing holes in less talented pilot’s ships. I’d never intended him to be anything else. I can’t believe I actually tried to go legit with him. That’s over now. I’ve decided to go back to my goal of becoming an Multi-Billionaire by any means neccessary.
In Eve there are a number of ways to make money; I’m simply refusing at this point, to turn any of them down. I don’t want to mission or mine, but I’ll do whatever it takes at this point. Well, there is this one problem. My Character’s name is Ihas Urstuff. He’s an obvious thief, and I can’t even go into an asteroid belt without it being vacated immediately. This makes me sad. Ihas is about to be biomassed and I’ve got to bring up a new thief, and I can’t get sentimental about any of this.
This time, I’ll start with an Amarr character. I’ve tried them before, and it’ll be handy to start someone off with a “clean slate”. The Bestower is such a good hauler, I’ll have this guy stealing other player’s stuff before long. I won’t be concentrating on defending myself right away. I’ll mostly be applying my energies to training up the following in order of priority:
Amarr Industrial
Trading Skills
Covert Ops
All Racial Battleships to III
There a link to the Evemon Skillplan at the end of this post.
As you can see my goal is to be able to steal any T1 battleship in the game. It’s a not exactly a lofty goal, but I aim low. I want to be able to steal and sell at a premium price anything.
So here I am, floating through the spheres looking for opportunity. Who know what nefarious deeds lie ahead. With a future this bright, I need to wear shades.
Months and months ago I started a little 2 man corporation in Eve Online for my brother and I to screw around in. Ok, that’s a lie. I started 2 corporations for us to screw around in. 1 corporation is strictly for mining/industry, and mission running. The other corp is for combat operations. While I took an Eve Break, my brother was re-connecting with some friends in RL and building up the membership of our combat corporation. My in-game character was the CEO of the combat corp and I’ve inadvertantly become the CEO of a very motley group of capsuleers.
Back when the corp started I had the tax rate set at 15%. I let the bro-of-mine raid the corporate wallet to replace ships he would lose while learning to fight the Eve way. Since then, I’ve moved the Tax Rate back to 5% so as not to burden the membership. 2 years ago, when I started playing the game, I never considered this decision making process. You see, in Eve a corporation is like a little city-state with Diplomats, Navies, Taxes, Assets, Territory and the other trappings of government. Back in World of Warcraft, I ran one guild, and was the officer of a large raiding guild. It was a very different environment. WoW is very structured, and inflexible compared to Eve. In Eve, there’s no large “End Game” dungeon to raid, or prepare to raid. There are no “attunements” to be gained. There are resources to be farmed, missions/quests to be run but the similarities end there. I’m trying to establish some level of governance to the corporation, but it’s difficult. You see, I’m very much of an independent, freelance minded sort of person. I do play well with others, but I’m very independent. I like doing what I want to do, when I want to do it. That’s not possible with a full blown Eve Corporation. You have to be mindful of the needs of others, before taking on your personal tasks. That’s true at the CEO level, not so much at the individual player level. I have to think of the things we need to do, and balance that out with what I want to do.
So where do I go from here? I’m considering throwing out a Vote to the membership (or multiple votes more like). It cost me 1M ISK to start this corp. I could not care less whether I’m to remain the CEO. I’m gonna throw it up for a vote whether or not I should remain CEO. I’m also going to throw out a vote about whether or not we want to make erecting the Large POS a priority. I’m thinking yes, but we’ll see. I’m big on democratic governance in Eve and in RL
For now, I believe we’ll concentrate on generating income for our members. We may toss in an ad-hoc PvP operation or two but for the most part, we’ll concentrate on getting everyone a nice income stream. Following that, we’ll be building up a fleet hanger with “replacement ships”. We’ve got a good collection BPOs (Blueprint Originals) for cruisers, and disposable frigates. I want to build up a war chest ready to go to war on a moment’s notice. I never thought I’d play a game where using Microsoft Project would be a pre-requisite.
Fly Safe o7
I’ve come back to Eve Online with a vengeance after finishing a project in the real world. My brother has been busy recruiting friends to join our little corporation of thieves and misfits in our quest to bring righteous violence the the world of New Eden.
After several nights of mission running, mining and just generally doing anything to build up cash and fit ships, we took off on our first real corporate operation. One of our members was done wrong by a former corpmate. We are quite a tight knit group, so when you wrong one of us, you have wronged us all. So we set out on our quest to drive this malfector to insanity and bankruptcy. My trusty locater agent had spotted the wrongdoer some 13 jumps from my home base. We proceeded at best speed to his system, hoping to find him mining away peacefully in his Hulk. No joy, but we did find one of his associates. It was at this point we decided to steal his ore, blow it up in front of his face, and allow him the good fortune to pass on a warning to his associates. Hilarity ensues.

For an activity that is so passive in nature, mining seems to create the nastiest attitudes in some people.
Say what you want about about David Lynch, but you can’t deny his genius. I didn’t know what to expect from this latest project. Even if you go with something as accessible as Dune, or as incomprehensible as Eraserhead, you really never know what you’ll get with Mr. Lynch.
I found myself empathizing with Jess in this first interview. At one point he says “you ask me if I have any regrets, yes I got a whole bushel basket of them, but I can’t do anything about them”. “I ain’t proud of nothin’ but bein’ alive”
The interview is short, just a touch over 3 minutes. I find myself wanting more, and anxiously awaiting his next installment.
INTERVIEW PROJECT – NEW EPISODE EVERY THREE DAYS.
Last.fm didn’t hand user data over to the RIAA. According to our source, it was their parent company, CBS, that did it. That corresponds to what our original source said in conversations we had after our initial post and before CBS lawyers became involved. But we didn’t want to update until we had an independent source for that information, too.
